Year in Review – 2021

A look at what happened with JamesGilbertMusic.com this past year.

The ongoing worldwide pandemic has dramatically affected musicians throughout the world including me.

The number of piano students I have declined dramatically in 2020. I have been unable to gain any new students in 2021. You can be anywhere in the world to take piano lessons from me. I also teach how to use computers to make music (software libraries, DAW, composition, arranging, etc).

On YouTube (https://youtube.com/jamesgilbertmusic) I added several demo videos of new sheet music. I started out on YouTube doing music tutorial videos. In 2021 I only added 2 tutorial videos. Since my videos are no longer monetized and I get practically no feedback from viewers of my newer videos I’m hard pressed to do more. On top of that, most of the topics I might do videos for have plenty of existing videos available by others on YouTube. I would love to hear what you think I should post on YouTube.

I’ve added quite a few titles to SoundCloud (https://soundcloud.com/jamesgilbertmusic).

Here are some statistics about my sheet music and sheet music sales over the past year (2021).

In addition to viewing my titles in the music catalog at my website, you can also view them on Sheet Music Plus at: http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/James-Gilbert-Music/2172?aff_id=104230

As a result of the ongoing pandemic, sheet music sales of my compositions and arrangements continued to decline as they did in 2020. The decline this year was less than in 2020 but nonetheless a significant decline.

Musicians from the following countries enjoyed my music this past year:

United States, Australia, Canada, Barbados, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, United Kingdom (Great Britain), Hong Kong, Hungary, Haiti, Israel, Isle of Man, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Mexico, Netherlands, Singapore, Slovakia, and Taiwan

I added 71 new titles to the sheet music catalog in 2021. I now have a total of 1,143 titles in my catalog.

I sold nearly 500 titles this year.

Approximately 57% of all sheet music titles I’ve ever written or arranged have never been sold.

My average monthly income from sheet music sales was barely enough to buy one week’s worth of groceries for one person.

I released two new albums in 2021. I now have 355 individual audio titles from 14 albums and various singles on SoundCloud (https://soundcloud.com/jamesgilbertmusic). Links to my audio recordings are in my catalog at my website.
